Asthma is defined medically as a state of inflammation, mucous, and bronchospasm. There is no pathology in asthma. It is not like emphysema where the alveoli have lost their elasticity and fail to function efficiently; it is not like cancer where aberrant cells multiply unchecked and invade healthy tissue.
