The US Government has just started to wake up – Australia is still snoring loudly. This latest figure is a 50% increase in just two years and still nowhere near the actual figures that were released in 2007 showing that 1 child in 67 was now autistic – 1 boy in 38. And while the vaccine denialists are shouting at the top of their lungs – we think that now, it might be environmental – they are also repeating their mantra – but it isn’t the vaccines.
Millions of dollars are being wasted searching for a genetic cause for autism. Read my lips – there is no such thing as an environmental epidemic – not in the absence of a nuclear war or accident. Autism is a multi-factorial condition which has multiple causes and though there may be a genetic predisposition in certain families to react to an environmental trigger by developing autism – without the trigger – there will not be autism. Vaccination is one of those triggers.
